Beginning Acting Workshop (Ages 11-16)- $89/4 weeks

This class has two sessions for your convenience:

• Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm
• Saturdays from 12-1:30pm

Students get the opportunity to have fun and make new friends while they learn the basic vocabulary actors use to communicate.  Students explore the skills necessary to present a monologue for an audition or performance. Focus will be given to motivation, staging, and presentation. Students will choose pieces from pre-existing works facilitated by the instructor. Each student will perform a monologue at the end of the 4 week session.

This is our introductory level acting class. Students will be given basic lessons in many stage skills, including proper vocal production, taking direction, and stage movement. Also, students will have classes in acting skills, including motivation, and character commitment.

• Overcoming stagefright
• Honing varied talents
• Audition technique

Selected students will have an opportunity to present at the studio recital, demonstrating the skills learned in the course of class.

Playground Theatre Company Class (Ages 11-18)- $89/4 weeks*

This class is by audition only.  This class meets on Saturdays from 1:30pm-3pm.

Students will create and constantly improve upon a professional portfolio for auditions and performances, while working towards a showcase presentation. A well-developed portfolio includes the following:

• 2 or more contrasting monologues
• 1 or more complete solo musical theatre song
• 2 or more contrasting 16-bar musical theatre songs

Additionally, the students improve their well-rounded theatrical skillset through enriching work in stage movement, improv acting, scene study/character development, dialogue, and backstage work.

Curriculum will focus on:

• Strong and well balanced performance technique
• Teamwork
• Organization, memory, and concentration
• Honing varied talents
• Audition technique
• Stage conventions and etiquette

Each quarter, the students of Under The Sun Studios presents a recital consisting of the pieces rehearsed, demonstrating the skills learned in the course of class. Playground Theatre Company Class Students who have participated in this class for 13 consecutive weeks or more are eligible to present in the quarterly showcase.
